Springfield ACHA Division II, MACHA Gold

 Springfield Eagles 2008-2009 Season Outlook

The Robert Morris-Springfield Eagles have experienced an extensive renaissance during the off-season and look forward to a brand new attitude in the 2008-2009 season.  With a new coaching staff, 11 returning players and the rest of the squad formed by several hard sought after recruits, the Springfield squad is ready to get back on the path of success.  After missing the MACHA playoffs in the last two seasons, the new team works everyday to climb their way back into the playoff hunt and beyond.

Working with the new team is fitness trainer Wayne Carrolls of High Intensity Practical Exercises, or “HIPE” gym.  HIPE is a new component of the hockey program and its commitment to success.  Wayne has been named “Best Trainer in Springfield” two years running by the Illinois Times.  Wayne has trained the North American Hockey League Springfield Junior Blues.  The Junior Blues were able to experience fantastic progress under Wayne’s fitness program, falling just short of the Robertson Cup finals last year.  Wayne is a welcome addition to the program in Springfield.  In addition to Mr. Carrolls extensive knowledge and skills as a fitness trainer, the HIPE facilities are perfect for the teams needs by providing sport-specific training.

The Springfield Eagles have added several new rookies to join the veterans as mentioned above.  Will Glick from Team Indiana, Nathan Murray who last played on the Kenosha Komets, Michael Sugden from West Allis, WI, who has played AAA hockey in Chicago, and Springfield local LLHH All-Star Derek Lewis.  These newcomers will join returning team captain J.J. Pyatt and seniors Brian Walters and Nils Lundin.  “We have good examples for the new guys and good teachers,” new Head Coach Bryan Soady commented.  Three players are returning as sophomores, Jairon Walk (our veteran goaltender) and Dan Ferguson, who joined the Robert Morris-Springfield squad after winning the 2007 LLHH Championship with the Normal West Wildcats.  Sophomore Ross Williams joined the squad after playing for the Dallas Titans in Bedford, TX.  Rounding out the goaltending crew are new recruits Kyle Briant from Downers Grove, IL and Danny Tomczyk from Grapevine, TX.  Other returning sophomores like Henry Barnes from Normal Community High School, David Long from the Decatur Wolves, and Eric Henderson from Lincoln Land Community College provide us with a core group of experience going into the 2008-2009 season.
