Staton Beats Rain at Carthage!!!

(So. - Wkgn, IL) carded a 96 in the rainy muggy conditions at BristolKrystal Staton Oaks G.C. (par 72) to place in the middle of the field at the Carthage College Invitational on Friday Sept. 12.  Staton (at right) improved by 17 shots from last year's round at Carthage.  UW Whitewater won the event with a 322 team total.  Saturday's tournament in Lockport hosted by St. Francis was washed out due to the torrential rains in the Chicagoland area.  Also canceled was Tuesday's Elmhurst Invitational Invitational at Oak Brook G.C .due Kelsey Hirmerto severe flooding.  On Friday Sept. 6 Kelsey Hirmer (Fr. - Elwood, IL)  shot 103 at the Knox Invitational played on Soangetaha C.C. (par 72) in Galesburg, IL.  Krystal Staton struggled with a 111 over the tight, hilly, wooded layout featuring lightening quick greens.  Wheaton College shot an outstanding 333 to take team honors.  Hirmer (pictured left) led the Eagles on Saturday Sept. 7 at the Monmouth Fighting Scots Invitational shooting 102 on the par 72 Gibson Woods G.C. layout.  Staton followed close behind with a 104.  North Central College won their 1st tournament ever shooting 335 on the tight, hilly tract.  Both Hirmer (109) and Staton (115) struggled on Tuesday at the North Central Invitational played at Cress Creek C.C. (par 72) in Naperville, IL.  Heavy rains from the previous two days left the course playing extremely long from the soft and soggy conditions accounting for some very high scores overall.  Lewis University (NCAA D-2) easily outdistanced the field (335) which featured NAIA and NCAA D-3 schools as well.  The Eagles will travel to Decatur, IL Saturday and Sunday Sept. 27-28 to compete in the Millikin U. Invitational.



Augustana Tournament Rained Out!!
Due to inclement weather caused by the remnants of Hurricane Gustav, the Augustana Women's Golf Invitational at Emeis GC (Davenport, IA) was canceled.  The tournament is the first fall invitational to be called off in RMC's 6 year history.  The Eagles will hope to resume play in Friday's tournament at Knox College in Galesburg, IL.

Eagles Host RMC Fall Classic
The fourth RMC Fall Classic was won again by one of the NAIA's top teams Bethel Krystal StatonCollege with a tournament record 298 (2 over par for 4 players).  NAIA 2008 National Champion Shanna Page (Sr.) fired a 1 under par 73 on the par 74 Foss Park G.C. to earn medalist honors for the 4th straight year.  Kara Ballinger (74), Beth Slusher (75) and Katie Powell (76) all from Bethel placed 2nd, 3rd and 4th respectively.  Krystal Staton (So. - Waukegan) shot 92 for the Eagles attaining her personal best.  Staton (at right) has worked to improve her game in the offseason and her efforts are evident in the early results.  Kelsey Hirmer (Fr. - Elwood) playing in her 1st collegiate tourney played well but was struck with illness during the round and had to withdraw.  The Eagles will travel to Iowa and Central IL. this week for the Augie, Knox and Monmouth Invitationals.  






Golf Practice Begin Aug 19!!!
Tryouts for the 2008 Robert Morris Women's Golf Team will begin on Tues. Aug. 19 at 10 AM at Foss Park Golf Course in North Chicago, IL.  All interested athletes must present  their physical and insurance forms to Coach Franz in order to participate in the practices.

Spaniak Medals at RMC Classic to Close Collegiate Career!!!!!!

  Sandy Spaniak (Sr. - Gages Lake, IL) ended an outstanding Sandy Spaniakcollegiate career for the Robert Morris Lady Eagles by carding an 88 and placing T-6th at the RMC Spring Golf Classic Saturday April 26 at Bonnie Brook G.C. par 72.  Spaniak (pictured at right) battled the 35-40 mph winds with gusts exceeding 50 mph and 35 to 45 degree temperatures to end her round with three scrambling pars to place in the medal picture.  A three time All-Conference selection and a two time NAIA Academic All-American, Spaniak was instrumental in helping the RMC Women's Golf Program to National ranking over the past three years and helping Robert Morris to reach the NAIA Championships in 2006.  Kari, Jessica, Sandy - 18th Hole 2008 RMC Spring ClassicSpaniak is graduating with a Business Administration Degree from Robert Morris in June 2008. 
St. Francis (IL) won the event for the 1st time with a 361 team total.  Whitney Heinzmann (Elmhurst) was tournament medalist for the event with an 81.  Krystal Staton (Fr. -Wkgn, IL) shot 114 (T-39th/46).  Many of the RMC Alumni and Coaches (Picture below) attended and volunteered at the event.  The 2nd Annual RMC Women's/Men's Golf Team Outing featuring present and former players is being planned for a date in June at Midlane C.C.

Spaniak Places at IWU !!!!!!

Sandy SpaniakSandy Spaniak (pictured left) carded rounds of 78-82 (160) to tie for 11th place at the showcase IWU Spring Fling which featured eleven of the NAIA and NCAA D-3's top teams.  Three-time All-Conference honoree Spaniak (Sr. - Gages Lake, IL) is only the 2nd Robert Morris Golfer to place at this prestigious tournament outside of All-American Jill Franz who finished 10th in 2006.  Host Illinois Wesleyan (#6 ranked NCAA D-3) won their own event with rounds of 321 - 317 (638) to nip #7 NCAA D-3 DePauw University (639) by one shot.  William Woods (#16 ranked NAIA) took home the 3rd place trophy with a 651 total.  Amanda Sanders (Olivet, MI) won medalists honors on a tie-breaker over Meagan Brennan (Ohio Northern University) shooting 76 - 75 (151).  Krystal Staton (Fr.- Wkgn, IL) tied her low round of the year on Saturday with a 103 and followed up with a 111 on Sunday for 214.  The Lady Eagles will complete their spring season at Bonnie Brook G.C. this Saturday April 26 at 11:00 hosting the RMC Spring Classic.




Spaniak Solid at St. Francis and Tri-State!!! 

Sandy Spaniak (Sr. - Gages Lake, IL) started the spring golf season with two solid Sandy Spaniakperformances at the University of St. Francis Invitational March 29 and the Tri-State Spring Invitational April 5.  Spaniak (pictured at right) placed 3rd at the St. Francis Invitational firing an 86 in 25-30 wind chill temps and a 25 mph wind at the par 72 Broken Arrow layout in Lockport, IL.  Rachel Anderson (St. Francis) won the medalist honors by shooting an 83.  St. Francis also won their own event with a 346 total.  Spaniak followed up her opening performance with an 87 (T-10th) at the Tri-State Invitational on the par 73 Brookwood GC in Fort Wayne, IN.  Brooke Gilbert of Bethel College won the medalist honors besting her teammate Shanna Page (#1 NAIA ranked player) by carding a 75 to Page's 78.  Bethel College (#6 NAIA) easily won the tourney by shooting a phenomenal 317 on the soggy long course.  Krystal Staton (Fr.- Wkgn, IL) shot 117 at St. Francis and 113 at Tri-State.  The Eagles will next compete in the IWU Spring Fling April 19-20 in Normal, IL. 

 


Nielsen Finishes Collegiate Golf Career!!!


Danielle Nielsen (Sr. - Antioch, IL) recently completed her collegiate golf career forDanielle Nielsen Robert Morris College at the NAIA Region 7 Championships held earlier in October at Broken Arrow Golf Course located in Lockport, IL.   Nielsen (pictured at right) placed 6th in her final event by posting scores of 78 - 89 (167) over the par 72 - 5852 yd layout.  Nielsen also medaled in several tournaments this fall season including achieving All-Conference Status for the 2nd consecutive year.  Nielsen will complete her course work at Robert Morris in February and graduate with a degree in Business Management.

(pictured at left) also played well for the Lady Eagles at the NAIA Region 7 Championships carding rounds of 88 - 85 (173) good for 13th place.  Spaniak (Sr. - Gages Lake, IL) earned All-Conference Honors as well as numerous medals in the fall including a 1st place finish at the IL College Tourney.  Krystal Staton (Fr. -Waukegan, IL) playing in her 1st NAIA Regional shot 103 - 108 (211).  St. Ambrose won the Region 7 Championship with an outstanding 2 day total of 330 - 323 (653) and earned an automatic bid to the NAIA National Championships in San Marcos, CA in May.  This is St. Ambrose's first title since RMC ended their reign in 2005.  Valeria Cogolio (Waldorf) was the individual medalist with rounds of 77 - 76 (153).  The Lady Eagles Golfers will be off until late February when they begin practices for the spring season 2008.
